The desert camels we know today are far from the shaggy giants that once lived in the Canadian High Arctic. Pleo, our camel, was inspired by the fossil found on Ellesmere Island in the northern territory of Nunavut which dates back 3.5 million years ago which was during the mid-Pliocene Epoch, a warm period of the Earth's history.
Today, dromedary camels, which have one hump, are typically found in North Africa and the Middle East. Known as 'ships of the desert', camels can travel long distances while regulating and conserving their water supply. They can travel through unforgiving environments such as sandstorms and scorching hot weather while transporting cargo. Therefore journeying is the symbolic essence of this animal.
May Pleo remind you to pace yourself and be mindful of your energy levels and be open to new connections whether it be people, ideas or cultures. As a talisman, may Pleo empower you to be open to your own unique journey and adventure for it's the sum of your experiences along the way that make reaching the destination worthwhile.
